Select By Polygon
This tool allows you to select features on the map by drawing a polygon. Any features of the active layer that fall within the selection tolerance of the polygon will be selected. Please refer to the Identifying Features section to change the selection tolerance.
Steps For Selecting By Polygon
- Click on the layer you want to select feature from on the legend. This will select the layer.
- Click the Select By Polygon button on the SelectionTools toolbar.
- Move the mouse over the map and click the mouse button. This click will represent the first point of the polygon.
- Move the mouse to another location and click mouse button to place the second point in the polygon. Repeat this step as many time as is required.
- To close the polygon double click the mouse. A line will automatically be drawn from the location you double click the mouse to the first point in order to close the polygon.
- Features of the active layer that fall within the selection tolerance will be selected and drawn using the selection symbology.

Steps For Viewing Attribute Data Of Selected Features
- Right-click on the layer in the legend. A new menu will popup.
- Click on Open Attribute Table.
- The Attribute Table dialog for the layer you clicked on will open. Click on the Show Selected Features button to see only the attributes of the selected features.
