Union Selected Features

This tool will merge all the selected features into a single feature. If the features are non-contiguous, they will become multi-part features.

Steps For Unioning Selected Features

  1. Click on the layer in the legend so it becomes selected.
  2. On the Editing toolbar, click Start Editing. For shapefiles only one person can edit the file at a time. Also, if permissions on the shapefile prohibit read/write access you will receive an error when attempting to edit the layer.
  3. Use one of the selection tools to select two or more features.
  4. Click on Edit Tools on the editing toolbar.
  5. Click on Selected Edit Tools.
  6. Click on Union Selected Features.
