Using InfoTips
InfoTips provide a quick and effective way to display attribute data for a feature simply by hovering the mouse pointer over the feature. InfoTips are setup on a layer by layer basis.
Steps For Setting Up An InfoTip
Right-click on the layer in the legend. A new menu will popup.
Click on InfoTips.
Click on Set InfoTip.
The Set InfoTips dialog will be displayed.
Move the desired fields from the available list to the active list.
Toggle
Display Layer Name
to display the friendly name for the layer this information is stored again.
Toggle
Display Field Name
to display the field name for the field this information is stored in.
To use a custom label select the field in the active list and type a label into the
Custom
text box. Each active InfoTip field can have it's own custom label.
Set a delay factor. This idicates how long you need to hover the mouse for the InfoTip to be displayed. This value varies from machine to machine, but 3 typically equates to around 1 second.
Steps For Using InfoTips
Move the mouse over a feature on the map and let it hover there, without moving, for a few moments. The InfoTip will display in a small yellow box. If you move the mouse off the yellow box it will disappear. However, it is possible to copy the text in this box by carefully using the mouse selection.
Double clicking on the yellow box will change its color to green.
In this mode it is possible to move the tooltip around by holding down the left mouse button.
Double clicking on or moving the mouse off the green box will change its color to blue.
In this mode the InfoTip will remain. In this state the InfoTip state will be preserved between project usages. It is now possible to enable all InfoTips to keep their spatial position via the InfoTip popup menu.
Double clicking on the blue box will change its color to yellow and it will then resume it's original functionality.
