Select By Rectangle
This tool allows you to select features on the map by drawing a rectangle. Any features of the active layer that fall within the selection tolerance of the rectangle will be selected. Please refer to the Identifying Features section to change the selection tolerance.
Steps For Selecting By Rectangle
- Click on the layer you want to select feature from on the legend. This will select the layer.
- Click the Select By Rectangle button on the SelectionTools toolbar.
- Move the mouse over the map and click and hold the mouse button. This click will represent the first corner of the rectangle.
- Move the mouse to another location, keeping the mouse button held down. Release the mouse button to specify the opposite corner of the rectangle. If map units have been specified for the project, the height and width of the rectangle will display in the status bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Features of the selected layer that fall within the selection tolerance will be selected and drawn using the selection symbology.

Steps For Viewing Attribute Data Of Selected Features
- Right-click on the layer in the legend. A new menu will popup.
- Click on Open Attribute Table.
- The Attribute Table dialog for the layer you clicked on will open. Click on the Show Selected Features button to see only the attributes of the selected features.
