Steps To Change The Name Of A Layer

Right-click on the layer in the legend. A new menu will popup. Click on Layer Properties. The Layer Properties dialog will be displayed. Change the text in the Friendly Name box. This will be the new layer name. Click the Close button to close the Layer Properties dialog. The legend with update to show the new layer name.

Note:
Changing the name of a layer does not effect the underlying data. The layer name is project dependent and will not modify any information stored against the map source.
